Welcome to the ABC
The Association for Bayou Conservation, Inc. continues to be a valid information source for concerned citizens to protect and preserve natural and historic resources of our forests, bays and bayous The professional attitude the ABC, Inc. manifested in public forums has established the serious and credible intent of the organization. Since our research and comments became part of the public input into the draft Environmental Impact Study (EIS), we can say with confidence that ABC, Inc. has made a positive difference. We continue support for a housing plan which meets the needs of our military families without jeopardizing our land, water, and the historic Camp Pinchot acreage. Recently, several news articles may have led the public to believe that the alternatives which include Camp Pinchot are off the table. This is not the case! While Eglin has removed the "preferred alternative” label on one of the six alternatives, the Camp Pinchot area remains a consideration in five of the six alternatives. ABC, Inc. has and sustains support for Alternative #2 in the Draft EIS which redevelops current base housing as the best choice for meeting the housing needs of our military families, with the least negative impact on our natural resources. It is critical that ABC Inc., members continue to talk to friends, neighbors and community about the importance of this issue.
ABC, Inc. members Neil Arnott, Kathleen Reed and ABC, Inc. volunteers have continued water testing for dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature and turbidity at the 22 test points in the area bayous. Fish and Wildlife Commission provides prepared testing bottles for samples to be sent to St. Petersburg monitoring red tide. Kathleen Reed is working to get fecal tests for the entire area not just a the public beach areas.
